# Directions:

01 - Mix vegan mayonnaise, minced chipotle peppers, adobo sauce, lime juice, and salt in a small bowl. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
02 - In a large bowl, mash black beans with a fork or potato masher, leaving some texture for bite.
03 - Add red onion, garlic, oats, breadcrumbs, cilantro, tomato paste, cumin, smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until fully combined.
04 - Divide mixture into 4 equal portions and form into burger patties. Add extra breadcrumbs if mixture is too wet to hold shape.
05 - Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook patties for 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown and heated through.
06 - Lightly toast burger buns in the skillet or toaster for added texture.
07 - Spread chipotle mayo on each bun, place black bean patty on bottom bun, and top with lettuce, tomato, onion, and avocado as desired.
08 - Serve immediately with sweet potato fries or a crisp salad.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • These burgers actually hold together instead of crumbling into sad bean salad on your plate
  • The chipotle mayo is so good you will want to put it on everything forever
02 -
  • If your patties start falling apart, let the mixture rest in the fridge for twenty minutes before shaping
  • The patties need to cook undisturbed for the first few minutes to develop a proper crust
03 -
  • Let the formed patties chill for 30 minutes before cooking, this step is a game changer
  • Do not press down on the patties while they cook, you will squeeze out all the moisture
