Brown Sugar Overnight Oats (Printable)

Effortless morning meal with sweetened oats, vanilla, and your favorite toppings.

# What You'll Need:

→ Oats Base

01 - 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
02 - 1 cup milk (dairy or plant-based)
03 - 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
04 - 2 tablespoons brown sugar
05 - 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
06 - Pinch of salt

→ Toppings

07 - 1/2 cup fresh berries or sliced banana
08 - 1 tablespoon chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
09 - 1 tablespoon chia seeds or flaxseeds

# Directions:

01 - In a medium bowl or large jar, combine oats, milk, Greek yogurt, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Stir thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
02 - Cover the container and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight, allowing the oats to soften and fully absorb the liquid.
03 - In the morning, stir the oats thoroughly. Add a splash of milk if a thinner consistency is preferred.
04 - Divide the mixture between two bowls or jars. Top with fresh fruit, nuts, and seeds as desired. Serve chilled.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • You can literally make five jars on Sunday and eat like royalty all week without touching a stove
  • The texture gets somehow better after sitting overnight, creamy without being mushy, sweet without being cloying
02 -
  • The first time I made these I used steel-cut oats and woke up to something that felt like chewing on gravel, so trust me on the old-fashioned oats
  • They'll keep in the fridge for up to three days, but the texture starts getting a little weird after day two
03 -
  • Mix your dry ingredients in a big batch on Sunday, then just add milk and yogurt each night
  • The brown sugar settles at the bottom, so give it a really good stir before you portion it into jars
